Shot this photo in green island iowa marsh on the 12th,, was extremely surprised to see such a late hatching. Also saw some very young woodducks that were about the same age, late?

In my neck of the woods, central Minnesota, everything is running late. I have Bluebirds still feeding their second brood. Let's hope all the young are ready for the long flight south. Pied-billed Grebes are one of the last to leave so they probably have a good chance.

I don't know anything about Grebe's, but it does seem a little late for hatching at this time. Maybe it's a sign of a mild winter ahead?
