Once again I am displaying my inexperience. I'm starting to worry about copyrighting my work. What do I need to do to copyright an image? Thank you for your help!

Ryan, for max protection you need to register it with the U.S. Copyright Office. They are here: http://www.copyright.gov

All your images have copyright protection built in as soon as they are captured, but registering them makes it easier to pursue legal action (and increases the damages you can collect) when someone steals an image.

you'll find tons of information on how to register your copyright on the Editorial Photographers site.

Also you can now register your images with the US Copyright Office online at the Electronic Copyright Office. Images are considered registered as soon as you submit the application online. It may take weeks or months to receive your certificate, but you will be registered effective the date of electronic submission. It is also $10 cheaper to register electronically ($35 vs $45).

Remember that published images require a slightly different registration process than unpublished. The ASMP has excellent tutorials on registering your copyrights.

Ryan,
Here IS the place to show inexperience....,,,where better? certainly NOT after your images are used and abused...
I agree with the info given.... May I suggest that you make a folder and put the images in there that you want to register... arrange in groups by year/or published or not published. I would print thumbnail pages with file names
and burn a DVD of the ones you submit together..... and keep those together until you receive your Official Registration, then file away together.
Here is a nice explanation of how to do it by Electronic Registration I found.
NPN ans NSN are 2 forums that have info and members I respect....
