Another from yesterday. I noticed they have an interesting habit. While i was shooting, i spotted a few reaching under branches with no pine cones regularly. I got one picture but from a bad angle, but they seem to drink the drops of water trapped by the needles under the branches when thirsty. This shot was taken just after she had her refresher.
Same specs as before. (Wish i could of been out getting better shots rather than sat at work fixing peoples network issues today).
another nice shot showing the enviroment dont know if its my old eyes playing up but the branch in front of the bird looks to be sharper than the bird.
But I have been up since 6.00am so might just be me.
Still a very good shot though.
Regards
Ian

Hi, ian, the bird is sharper in the full image, also the branch is the one the bird in sat on. The eye is in the centre of the DOF. I really want to get a shot of them this weekend, but i think i'm stuck at the out law's
Hi Paul,
was this with the D700? how is it going with this machine fx and all?

Hi Paul, this was with the D2X, the D700 is stunning, shot a relatives wedding and i must admit for indoors/low light it is simply fantastic. The DR is probably a good stop better than the D2x, and seems to keep it longer in high ISO.
I think the D2X wins with sharpess and the pixel density (range), images have bite which the D700 lacks. I'm definately going to keep the D2x for long range low ISO and the D700 for high iso.
I know which i'll be using for squirrels next!

This gives a good sense of their favoured habitat. Could just do with being a bit bigger in the frame for me, but then I do tend to get jealous easily.
