RMA Bison Calf
I visited Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR today, in hopes of shooting rut behavior. While the rut has begun and there is some bluffing and flehmen going on; I was amazed to see that yet another calf was born in the last couple of days. This is the 5th calf of the season - over a span of 2 1/2 months. The gestation period is 9 months, so I have heard that it's not uncommon to have an overlap with rut and calving.

This image is the ~ 3 day old calf being nuzzled by his mom.

She must be pretty hungry to eat her own baby! :frown:

Great shot Dave, as usual.

Great light. Beautiful coat on the cow looks like it was groomed.
