Colors will be peaking on Sept. 24 at 5:32 pm MST and they will be utterly spectacular this year!

I also predict the pine trees will be unusually colorful this fall, with many shades of green, orange, and brown.

I was wondering how long it would be until somebody asked the million dollar question. Like every year expect colors somewhere in the state from around the 24th Sept to 7th October IMO.

Actually, some pines DO change colors in the fall up here in Montana. No joke! I had no clue.

Anyway, I defer to the prognosticators now ...

I heard they were sprucing (no pun intended) the city up for the DNC... I had no idea they had gone to such extremes.

I think the aspen and the weather have a mind of their own, but it's always entertaining to speculate. Seems like the last few years things have been a little later than the average and more prone to high winds and big snow dumps to throw us off.

Actually, to be serious, the "peak" varies throughout the state, so it really depends on where you'll be photographing. I don't think anyone can really predict it, but It generally happens about the same time every year, so you just need to know what the average "peak" is for a given area.

Well, I was going to ask this very same question, but I see that someone beat me to it.
Since the "peak" is location specific, I'll pose my question as such: What is the "typical" time frame for the Aspen/Maroon Bells area?
I've never shot there in the fall, and am trying to schedule some time up there.

Thanks!

Bob, if it's a typical year, the Bells should peak around the weekend of Sept. 20.
