I am a n00b in this forum.I am planning to visit Acadia this fall, last week of september or first week of october. Is that a good time to catch the foliage in its peak?? Also,I need all the help regarding locations to shoot sunrise and sunsets, any secret locations, your favorite location etc. Any help would be great.I am primarily interested in landscape photography. I will be there for 3 days. Please help me plan my trip.
I don't know Acadia that well, but do know that you will be way early for the peak foliage there, by about three weeks. It's still a beautiful place, but doens't match your goals. I you want foliage that week, you will have to head inland, north of the mountains. If you want Acadia without peak foliage, this thread can continue...
Hi Swapna
I'm also planning a trip to Acadia, but a few week earlier than you. I'm less interested in the fall color and more interested in avoiding the crowds. I've not been there before and bought The Photographer's Guide to the Maine Coast by David Middleton and Bruce Morrison. I covers much more than Acadia but does devote 26 pages to the park and nearby islands. It's a good book and I recommend it as both a photography guide and a travel guide.

Hi Swapna,
You'll be much too early. It's not an annual trip, but I've done it numerous times. I'm going this year as well, provided things look good. Two years ago was a total bust there. High winds and rain destroyed much of the foliage. Even VT got nailed. Fall foliage peaks about two weeks later than Vermont for instance. To hit peak your looking the week after Columbus day. If you need travel dates, just check out other tour companies like Joseph Van Os, and see when they go, if they do at all. They have all the dates nailed down as when it's best to go. There are a million tour companies. Just research it.

Well, I've been to Acadia twice and as far I am concerned the best photographic opportunity is at the Bass Harbor Lighthouse at sunset, actually sunrise can be very nice too. Also, there's a very photogenic foot bridge in Somesville that extends over a pond surrounded by wildflowers. The entire shoreline in any direction is populated with large rocks that make for interesting foreground elements. Good luck, enjoy.
Swapna,
The reference date for the peak foliage in the Arcadia area is October 20th. Any give year it can be earlier or later but that is the average that has generally beenreliable over the long term. The first week of October yo uwould fid much better color from Baxter St Park down through Rangley, Maine; and then accross the white mountain of NH and into Northern Vermont.
