Trillium Lake, Aug 24th 2008

I was one of 6 people on Earth to see this sunrise from this vantage point looking over the lake!....Just us and the ducks.......

This was my 43rd or 44th trip to the lake in the past 14 months in attempt to capture a exceptional sunrise.... Finally it happened.....even got some flowers in there....

Creative use of a 3 stop soft grad helped to balance and control exposure in the far right......

This is my new personal favorite image and I plan on printing it up BIG.....

Cheers my friends!!!!

Camera: Nikon D300
Exposure: 0.8 sec (4/5)
Aperture: f/18
Focal Length: 10 mm
ISO Speed: 100

Just SPECTACULAR, Darren... I guess you can file this one with the "keepers!"

Darren, you nailed it. Must have been huge thrill to see the sunrise unfold before you! I'd be thrilled if this image were part of my portfolio. :toast:

Great capture Darren. Nice wide angle perspective and wonderful sky colors.

I was up there Thursday thru Saturday for a family camping trip. Darn, wish we could have stayed one more day. Congrats!

Darren, I commented on this over in ESS, but it is worthy of a second congrats! Really nicely done and time well spent!

Your persistence paid off! Great job my friend.. :toast:

Great sky Darren! I'll echo the congrats on the persistence. I like the way the color goes from warm in the right to cool in the left, and great reflection. I'd love to see the large print.

I'm not as sure about the foreground, it's not as attractive as the sky to my eye and doesn't create quite the perfect balance that that sky needs.

Damn! I've been trying to just look and not get sucked into commenting on images but you guys are making it impossible! Darren, this is a sweet shot. I love how the clouds mimic the curvature of the shoreline, and your comp is flawless IMHO. don't change a thing. :toast:

Though it it an awesome sunrise, I hope you clicked off a bunch of other comps maybe with a little less foreground. The dirt shows alot of human activity in the area. It is the best morning sky I've seen from the lake.

Other than the super black trees on the right, I really like the exposure and tone of this image. I think the foreground is actually really beautiful too and is a nice compliment to the sky. For me, the mountain doesn't have enough presence in this image and is overpowered by the less than spectacular FG. I guess unlike a lot of your work this one just doesn't strike a chord with me.
Wonderful processing .....especially on the foreground and water.

I tend to echo Chris's comments and would like to se a stronger mountain presence otherwise I think you pretty much nailed everything else!
