40D, Sigma 180mm + 1.4xTC, Tripod, composit of four images taken in Shuter Priority at 1/640, between f5.6 and f7.1. Slight crop left and bottom.
First image for a while, and first attempt at a composit image (PS7). Photos taken yesterday at a hornet nest during what had to be one of my most hair-raising photographic experiences. When I started it was quite cool and they didn't seem too bothered by me, but by the time I'd filled up the card the weather had improved a lot, and the lens (and me occassionally) was being dive-bombed by about a dozen hornets. Being a fan of wasps I stayed calm, and didn't get stung, and it was all a bit exciting really. Still wished I had a longer lens though!
C&C welcome.

Awesome shot! I've not seen many photos of hornets, especially not groups of them. I don't mind that it is a composite- as it is a good representation of how our mind would record what we were seeing, if you follow me.

Excellent and well thought out !
If the background was a little more OOF it would be even more dramatic in my view.
Great stuff.
I,ve done a fair bit with Hornets and they can sometimes be really tolerant. The secret is not to run !!

Like the idea but I agree with John re bg being a little distracting, otherwise a very good attempt.

Brave one Greg and as you were only armed with a 180mm so much more so. I think the BG works well here apart from the OOF are to the right.
Another subject to think about. Well done.
