Monarch on Thistle
The patch of Thistle I found is still producing a few photo ops. This was the best of the Monarch images I've managed to get so far.

You'd think I would know the ins and outs of my camera after having used it for a year, but nooooo...I made another discovery last week! Needing some fill light at times, and not having a TTL flash, I thought about trying Program Mode for a change, then popping up the on-camera flash. This image is the result of one of those "experiments", with the flash providing just the right amount of fill that was needed. Cropped from bottom and left side to eliminate unwanted elements and for composition.

Pentax K10D, Pentax 80-320 @200mm, f14, 1/180, on-camera flash for fill, iso 200, hand held with IS.

Nice capture Toni...funny to associate a patch of thistle with photo-ops, but it works! Cool.

Nice shot. I got some more Monarch shots yesterday. According to the web we are not at the midpoint of the fall migration.

Really nice, Toni. You certainly nailed the DOF on this one.
