First Snow Moose
I have been a "lurker" for some time now and decided i would finally post something. Since most of you post landscape photos I feel a little out of place posting wildlife. This photo was taken two weekends ago in the northwest corner of RMNP. There was this bull and and five other smaller moose in this group. It was hard to get the exposure correct with the snow and the sun. I will post more moose photos as that is what I enjoy shooting.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Great pose from the moose. These are truly majestic animals. Nice capture.
I saw my first moose in Colorado this past June. We took a quick trip to Rocky Mountain National Park and was able to see several during our stay. Wasn't able to get close enough to get such a nice image as this.

I have yet to come across one of these guys in the wild, nice find!
The rock in the foreground is a little distracting, you might see if you can crop it to the corner or out while keeping a good composition with the Bull. I think I'd lighten this just a tad too. Nice color balance.

Mike,Nice capture. Great looking coat especially against the green background. I would also suggest that you lighten the image. Also a better DOF would bring the foreground into focus.

Love the pose, he looks interested in something, rather than bored the way most of my moose shots look.

Very cool, Mike, i like the look on his face! The dark bg makes it harder to see the moose and gain dof here. It may have been impossible, but i think this would really be strong if you could get a lighter bg with some more of those snow patches in it (maybe a shot form a helicopter  )

Mike -

I love your shot, especially the look on his face. And I love the wildlife photos, so keep posting.

Since you like moose, I thought I would ask if you know of any good spots to find a bull moose in Yellowstone or the Tetons? I'm headed up there later this week and would love to find a couple of these guys. I've found lots of moms with babies up there, but this is the only bull moose I've ever seen. Any ideas?

Wildlife posts are more than welcome Mike. This is a terrific pose but somewhat dark. I'd work to try and pull the moose out of the BG since he blends a bit much. Stellar pose. I've never seen one in the wild and I've been to the supposed "Moose capital" of Colorado several times :frown:

Welcome to RMNP, Mike. I hope you were using a long lens - he looks like he could do some damage. Nice pose; definitely a challenging exposure situation with all that snow and a lot of black on the moose. I think you handled the exposure well; less DOF might be the only way to better isolate the moose here.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
