Yep yet another Kingfisher shot. I was messing around with my 500mm Sigma and had put a Sigma 2X Teleconverter on it when this bird posed very nicely but a litle bit too close. So this is full frame not a lot to crop. I was quite impressed with the TC as it was shot at f9 IE wide open.

Nikon D70
Sigma 500mm 4.5 with sigma 2X TC ( Manual focus )
1/30 sec
f9
ISO 200
Spot metering
Tripod and a lot of luck.

Cheers

Fantastic detail on this Ian. A very good advert for that lens combination. A pity about the cropped feet but perfectly understandable when a bird decides to perch a bit close.

Great close up. I may have been tempted to crop this and go for a full head job.( Don't matter about the feet then !
Good to see the old D70 still producing the goods.(I,ve still got one.)

Wow rare to get such a close image, the shot is nice, the oof body gives the head extra pop which gives the image a nice 3D effect.

Cheers I must admit I have never got as close before and most likely never will again

John I like my old D70 its light and the bettery lasts forever, the atuofocus shows its age but I usually manual focus anyway.

I think I will try cropping it tighter as suggested :toast:

Must admit that I like very close photos and I am not that worked up about the missing feet. What I do like is the detail in the bill and the way that the bill leads the viewer straight to the eye. I like it a lot.
If I was being picky, I would say that there seems to be some kind of ghosting around the wing area, but that may just be because it is Oof, I'm not really sure.

Colours look good but I feel the composition looks a little akward without the feet.
