Pockets of life
As many times as I've visited Mohawk Lakes and as much as I like this place, I've never done two things. I've never made it to the top of the valley and I've never been there at sunrise. On this outing, I set out to tackle the first issue and hike to the top of the valley. We made it to the third major lake but unfortunately my wife was having a severe headache that seemed to be caused by the altitude.

The granite walls surrounding this lake were stunning in their texture, but also in the contrast to the soft tundra of the valley.

I love that area and enjoyed one of my favorite backpacking trips there with a couple great friends. It's pretty sweet at sunrise!

Neat image, Mel. Good example of successfully breaking the rule of thirds w/ the horizon in the middle.

I like it too! Was there any angle that could exclude the piece of shore on the left? It would be very cool to have the little islands be the only greenery visible amid all the stone and water.

I like your composition, but as you indicated, the right lighting at sunrise would probably have made a fantastic image.

Nice use of implied receding lines too. Hope you manage to achieve your goals!

Works for me, Mel. I've never been there, but nonetheless your image certainly conveys the unique beauty of this spot. I like not seeing the horizon or mountains above.

I know that rock wall, it's impressive. It always makes me think of Moria and it gets nice light at sunrise. I like the arrangement of the islands in your image.

Cheers,
