Hey Kurt, I was just up there last week and thought summit lake was a posssibility, but it was really windy both mornings, so don't count on calm for good reflections. I think that the trail heads to the summit of Mt. Evans and Chicago Lakes are a great viewpoint. Both trails start at the far (north) end of summit lake. Echo Lake dosn't have much to offer. Then there is the view from the summit.

Thanks Ed,
How long is the trail to Chicago Lakes? any pics from that area?
Kurt
p.s whats up with all this haze or smoke today? It's so thick I can't see the mtns at all
Kurt, Summit Lake can be a cool spot, if like Ed mentioned the wind isn't too bad. The shot above was taken exactly 4 years ago today, so this should give you a good idea on the direction of light. This is from the north shore of the lake.
Another cool area for sunrise is the Mt Goliath Bristlecone area a bit further down the road. Here are a couple from that area: Goliath 1 Goliath 2
Good luck!

Very nice photos Brent,
Maybe I'll stick with summit lake for the actual sunrise then try and find Mt Goliath area, are there actual foot paths around the lake that are easy to find in the dark? I'll have my head light with me but its not the brightest in the world.
Kurt
I was just up there a couple of days ago, but the weather was so bizarre in the mornings and afternoons that I didn't attempt a sunrise or sunset photo. The one night I was up there was when the tornado hit the Denver area followed by a half hour of huge hail stones.
I did, however, get some pretty decent shots up at the top of the goats in the morning. The sky during the day was spectacular - great blues with soft white clouds.

Thanks! Very easy to find. Park, and just walk past the bathrooms, the trail should start right there, and be quite easy to find.

thanks for the info Ed
