I seem to have had a computer problem crop up overnight. It was shut down normally the day before, but when I pressed the power button to restart it today, the power cycles on-off at one second intervals and will not power up. I've tried plugging it directly into my wall outlet - same thing. Also, I unplugged all the hard drives - no change. Hoping someone might know if this sounds like a power supply issue, or an enclosure/switch issue. The case is a two year old antec Sonata II - 450 volt supply... thanks!
Ned, sounds like you are on the right track here. I fought this awhile back with a neighbors PC and had a heck of a time, only to find out it was the power strip that did not supply enough poop to the box. What threw me off was the same isolation process you have started. I unplugged the keyboard and monior and the system would fire up. All it took was a little more draw with the keyboard or monitor hooked up and it would not boot. It sure sounds like it is power, and with your tests it gets real close to possibly the supply with more or less no load on it.

Is this a laptop or a desktop? The reason I ask is this will happen on some laptops if the battery is shot, even when it is attached to a transformer/power supply--Larry

Thanks for the replies.. it was the power supply. I guess the PS is a weak link in the Antec enclosure. I bought a better, 500 watt one and I am good to go now...
