OK, I've received the 1st Fall color Update
from the Aspen/Snowmass area and it seems that
all will be about the same as it was last year...
Although many trees are healthy, there are many trees that are sick
and are when viewed up close you can see that they are already
turning yellow on the edges and we will have the "Faux Fall" effect
probably here also... So the only main question is
when will the 1st Cold snap be and will there be wind
to knock the delicate leaves off or calm so they can turn and give us time?
Estimates are so far that starting at the Hope Valley area
we are indeed probably looking at mid-Sept for starters
and mid-Oct for the Yosemite Valley colors.
We already have maples and Liquid Amber losing their leaves
down in the Bay Area and Central Valley Floor.
With the drought conditions we have this does not surprise me.
So mark your calendars and report back here....OK?
..and Happy Film/Pixel Exposing everyone
*cheers*

Hi Nelcha, this is a good thread. I will certainly keep an eye on it but wondering what you guys think the timing would be this year ? i know its vague question but any speculations so far ? i am thinking, if time permits, around the week of 5th Oct.
thanks,
deb

Hi Deb....
I just gave the "estimates" for starting color above...
What area specifically are you referring to?
I was being as specific as anyone can at this time...
We have to wait for the first "cold" snaps" to know more...
and see if this schedule holds...

Sorry Nelcha for not being explicit. i was referring from lundy canyon to bishop area. do you know if the north side(lundy, lee vining, june lake) of hwy 395 peak faster than the south (bishop) or is it the other way around ? based on that, i would plan accordingly.

Yes... Deb... you got it... it goes by how far North and Elevation accordingly
So Hope Valley is about the the same Elevation as Mono/Lundy/June but further North... 7,000' +
So watch for posts when Hope Valley changes and since June/Lundy
are south of Conway Summit they should turn right very shortly after...
depending of course, how big the COLD (area-wise) snap is... and how low it goes...
So the further South you go.. the slightly later the colors will change.
Remember Cold and Calm is Best..... Wind will shorten our time available.
Conway Summit can be incredible BTW
Don't forget Lower Lee Vining Creek Campground either
If you like a "particular canyon" check the elevation....just Google it.
Hope that helped.....

Thanks Nelcha, that was very informative. Btw, I haven't been to Hope Valley before. Any specific place to look for or is it all around ? Not sure that I would get the time but if it permits I might run
