Hoodoo City
This set of hoodoos 30 or so miles west of Page, AZ has become almost iconic, but I tried to find a somewhat unique composition.

I went to Page yesterday afternoon with the intent of spending the night, then visiting a relatively unknown slot canyon today in order to photograph an arch within this canyon that glows like fire twice a year during a particular solar azimuth. This involves a fairly strenuous hike carrying an eight foot ladder in order to bypass a dryfall.
Unfortunately, monsoonal clouds and rain/hail thwarted that effort, so this image was my consolation prize. Will try again Monday, though!

Very nice... I really like the tone off the color off the rocks, combined with the horizontal lines very nice.

Not too shabby for a 'consolation prize'. Good luck on monday! I sent you an email, BTW.

Love it! I'd blur the two distinctly linear cloud shapes (just right of center and upper left corner), because, even if they're not contrails, they look like contrails.

Great advice, Todd....thanks!

I really like this, John. I'll bet this might look good in B&W too.

Really like the wide angle view and the color and texture in the rocks.

A beauty John. You got a very nice sky to compliment the beautifully lit red rock.

Great lines on the rocks and wonderful light. I'd take this as a consolation prize any day.

This photo is too busy for my taste. I really like the hoodoo on the right, and the bright wall on the left, but they are distracting from the center formation, which I think deserves more attention. Great light and processing. Thanks for posting.

Nice use of the light and forms, John.

I think you accomplished your goal of a unique comp and the light is amazing. That is one hell of a consolation prize, that would be a winner for me. :toast:

Very nice John, love the colors and light.

That hike with the 8' ladder sounds intense, good luck out there today...

Nice color and comp, John. Good call on avoiding the slot with the local rain threatening.
A tighter crop on the main hoodoos might be worth looking at but this is nice as is.

Nice light and the clouds got dynamic on you!
