taken a little after my last post, not sure about the processing on this one with the water in it but hope this looks alright, in retrospect i wish i had turned the ISO up to 640 earlier as a lot pictures were binned on grounds of sharpness from this session

I dont mind the water, although it is a bit "liveless", still a nice otter portrait

Rene if you are still there, How do i stop it looking lifeless?

Jack, it is a difficult one. i suspect that the light conditions were not that great, resulting in the grey/liveless colour of the water. I dont think there is much you can do, maybe crop a bit?

Unfortunately, I think it would benefit from some more room on the right and to me, the horizon looks like it's sloping up from left to right, but that's easily fixed.

Hi Chris
horizon definately not skewed here as you can see the otter's head is horizontal, the sea looking tilted is merely the result of a wave

Hi Jack,
Do you know what, I think this is up there with the best of them. I really like the swell of the water and the "parting" of the water where the front leg has gone in. The inquisitive sniff and pose that you have captured before it enters the water is superb, and just look at the texture of that fur, SUPERB

Looks very good from this end Jack
But what were you drinking - the camera must be 25 degrees off level

Hi Jack,
I see that you pointed out that the horizon is level and the sloping water is down to a surge. It may be that sometimes it pays to make the picture wrong, so that it looks right. I hope that makes sense. Not a criticism, just wondered if you had tried it and whether it looked any better? Eric
