Summer in the Cascades
It snowed about 2 inches yesterday afternoon at my campsite high on Park Ridge in the Jefferson Wilderness. A good way to send off the month of August in you ask me. The second I heard it might snow a little over 6000 feet, I was up there waiting for it. 24 degrees this morning and what a beautiful view! Too bad I only saw Jefferson for a few seconds through the mist, but I tried to make the most of it with this photograph. Thanks for commenting.

Looks like a kepper to me Marc, I like that fact that the Jeff is only partial visible. Makes the mood for this image. I was hoping to head up yesterday to do something very similar myself somewhere higher up but I could not get away in time so a late last minute jaunt to the Columbia River was what I had to work with.

Fantastic Marc, a few seconds is all you needed. I love the ethereal misty look and feel. I too tried to get up into the mountains, but couldn't get away in time. I'm glad you made it up there, what a beautiful sight to behold.

Very nice! The lines of the ridge leads your eyes through the mist and straight to the mountain. Perhaps a little deeper crop on the right to move the mountain just a little more out of center?

Snow and 24 degrees in August, you have to love the Cascades.

What a beautiful moment - I love these fleeting glimpses the mountains sometimes give us.... keeps us on our toes !! I love that you are jumping the second you hear the possibility of snow - you are the most hard-core snowdog I know of

Incredible weather for August! I like the smooth gradient from warm tones to cool across the photograph and how it is split by the ridge and mountain. Its kind of like summer leaving off the left... the last glow of warmth and long days...and winter coming in fast behind it to the right...bringing cold stormy darkness. Wow im gettin carried away! Nice photograph

There you go getting all of us ski bums far too exited far too early. Incredible snow photo in late august!! I'll just go ahead and take it as a good omen for what's to come.

I think Khristain describes this scene very nicely, Marc! I love the lavender tones and the misty, mystical look. Way to go for it!

It's amazing how you can make those magnificent photographs.
In my opinion, however, the image would be even better if the mountain top were as sharp as the first plan with the mist going across in the middle. Too bad we can't command the clouds...

Really nice quality to this image, Marc. But then, I come to expect that of you...

It sure does look cold, brrr!

I'd say you made the most of it, Marc. Gorgeous light and mood, and a classic "Adamus" composition.

Yea, Marc, that's a great composition! Not the normal left/right triangle stuff, but receding triangles up the middle. I like it because it's something different and it works extremely well. It really conveys height and being "on top, looking higher." Tough to do. Nice one!
