OK, one last post from my trip to the Canadian Rockies. After catching the sunrise atop the rock pile I wandered around the lake before breakfast. This is taken right at the outlet stream.

Interesting use of the logs. An approach I haven't seen much of here. I'm not sure I like it more than the usual perspective up above, but it's certainly more unique, which is a huge asset when photographing a place like this. The vertical ones draw me towards the mountains, but the horizontal lines past that don't work too well in the comp. The exposure and all the technicals look good in the web version IMO. Overall I'd have to say it's definitely a keeper.
This is actually Moraine Lake. Lake Louise is just to the NW of here.

You are absolutely correct Marc, this is indeed Moraine Lake. I was editing Lake Louise while posting Moraine. I guess multi-tasking is not my strong suit.

I like your thinking outside the box on this, but to me, Moraine Lake is all about the color in the lake, and the logs simply distract from the natural blues of the scene way too much. Not a bad image, but the logs are just a little too 'heavy' and draw my attention away from the rest of the image.

David, I have looked at this for a couple minutes now and no matter how much I want to look up at the beautiful peaks my eyes keep getting their attention taken back to the logs. I think logs would have worked for me if they did not take up so much real estate in the FG. Excellent attempt for doing a different comp here though.

Hi Dave, I tend to agree with the others about the logs stealing attention on this one. Perhaps a 4x5 crop that splits things into thirds would help. 1/3 sky, 1/3 mountain and lake, and 1/3 logs.

4x5 crop with a lot less logs would work great for me. Maybe crop where the larger more interesting log enters the frame on the Right. I kind of agree that the BIG thing with these lakes is the water color and that isn't being shown here..... still interesting but it needs less logs
