Film! Remember that!?
Hi All
I've spent some time recently having a clear out of my old film images. Looking back, it is funny how so many of the images seemed like good shots at the time - I've only kept about 10% of the images for digitisation!

This shot was taken on the dullest of dusks, but a bit of careful camera work has rendered a usable image that still appeals to me now. I love the atmosphere of the image.

C & C welcomed.

Canon 1V HS
500 mm + x1.4
1/60 @ f4
Fuji Provia 100F @ 200 ISO

Ahh yes, Fuji Provia, that was my film of choice. Velvia was too slow and a bit over saturated for wildlife. As you say Chris, this has a nice restful atmosphere to it. The fact that the bird's head is looking back gives the composition a good tie in with the rear birds and the use of differential focusing has really lifted the subject.
Very nice image

I only really got into photography in a serious way when i got my first digital camera, so i don't have much experience with film. having said that, I definitely can see that shots on film do have a certain quality to them.

Cheers,

Dan.

I love the strong contrast between the sharply focused bird and the out of focus ones in the background.

I remember film well enough; I couldn't afford enough of it!
It's surprising how easy it is to overlook a shot because it wasn't quite what you had intended.
This is a beauty.

film, especially slides for projection used to be a bit more forgiving in terms of sharpness as i recall. I used to get away a lot more with shooting a 2x TC than i would today on digital. Or maybe i'm developing the shakes now..... sigh, i do miss shooting provia, although i used to use the 400 more.

Nice enviro shot....

very nice shot with a certain atmosphere to it, afraid i don't remember film too well as it largely before my time. Only ever shot 5 rolls of slide film and all on old manual focus pentax cameras off of ebay

Thanks Jack, you made a happy man feel very old!

It isn't that long a go that film was better than digital at 35 mm; how things have changed in such a short time. When I were a lad . . . . . .
