An earlier session caught these two kingfishers enjoying the warmth from the early morning sun.

vey nice, i really like the background and the out of focus bird sets the other off very nicely, does seem a little over contrasty to my eye though

Compositionally this is a wonderful shot. The colours look a bot off, although it may just be a combination of the light and the partial shade.

that's very nice, and a bit different to usual kingfisher shots. The highlights could perhaps do with dampening slightly.

The light's clearly very difficult and I agree with Matt that toning down the highlights would improve it as would a little lightening of the shadows. I like the comp though very much. I can see some straight vertical lines behind the RH bird which look a little unnatural, have you done any work on the BG or is it just reeds or something similar?
one I'd love to have in the bank.
Hello Eric, the background is a reed bed to the right and water to the left (with isolated reeds) and is untouched by me. A classic case of natural looking less natural than it should!! The light was quite difficult as it was very early morning with a full sun coming over the horizon. I'm not particularly good at the post processing adjustments but I have taken note of the above comments and shall try to make some improvements. Thanks all for the advice.
