I think it was Steve who asked the question not too long ago, so I thought I would post this here.

This all came about because one of our NPN friends, Dietrich Gloger, is vacationing in the US and will be in northern California in a couple weeks.

Looks like Chris Chamberlain, myself and possibly Dan and Benjamin will meet up with Dietrich on Wednesday Sept 17th. It is a weekday, but the only day Dietrich has to photograph while staying in San Francisco.

Here's the rough agenda:
-Meet in Sausalito around 12pm at the Rodney Lough Gallery.
-Grab some lunch in Sausalito
-Hit the Marin headlands for the classic GG Bridge overlooks (for Dietrich ya know)
-Head over to Muir beach for late afternoon and sunset. Looks like there will be a low tide at sunset and should create some nice photo opportunities.

Anyone is welcome to join us. It would be great to put some faces to names as many of us have never actually met in person.

Please post here if you're interested. We'll post more info if any plans change.

Wish I could make it. Sounds like fun and I would like to meet Dietrich and the CA gang I have not yet met.

Say hi to my old buddy Rodney. Spent a hour or so chatting with him in Yosemite, at the season pool that has the reflection of Cathedral Rock. Shoots an Arca 8x10 and I was shooting an Arca 4x5 at the time. Really nice guy, but he does have a rather positive impression of himself.

It looks like I'll be in town so I might be able to join you. I might skip the RL gallery (just visited the SF pier 39 location a short time ago) and lunch and meet you at the GGB.

BTW you might want to check out Rodeo cove too as it is right behind the GGB view point.

I wish I could meet up with you all, but my dean scheduled a meeting...on my day off! That's life in the big city, I suppose.

I hope you all have a great time!

Dietrich had told me about his visit to the Bay Area. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get away from the office until much later in the day. If you guys are planning on having dinner or something in the evening (i.e. after the photography session), I might be able to join you.

Hello folks, this is Dietrich checking in from Vancouver. One week of my trip has passed, the Canadian Rockies were awesome! And let me tell you: I can't wait to meet you guys in California! Thank you very much Lon and Chris for initiating this! This is a (maybe) once in a lifetime experience for me, so believe me I am pretty excited about all this!
I have limited online time here in the hotel lobby so I have to log off...
See ya later guys!! :wavey:

Hi Guys! Its the austrian Dude again. I am in Crescent City right now. So, chances are high that I show up in San Francisco as well...
The agenda looks great! Some info from my side. I will not have the car available for that day, unfortunately. The ladies (my girlfriend and my sister) want to go to the Gilroy-outlet and my father will do the driving. They will do it on the 17th from late morning until afternoon so that interfers with our meeting schedule.)
I do not know yet how to get to Sausalito by public transport, but I guess I will manage. If one of you can pick me up by car in San Fran that would be greatly appreciated of course. I will keep you updated....
Later, Dietrich :wavey:

Hey Dietrich,

Looks like we're all still on schedule. I've started an email off-list to exchange cell numbers, etc., so if anyone is interested in joining us on Wednesday, please send me an email.

The last thing I recall was that Chris was going to be able to pick you up in SF. Chris, let us know if that's still the case. Dietrich, there's no practical, timely way to take public transit except for the possibility of the Golden Gate Ferry - which is a good option. If you're staying along the Embarcadero, should be easy to get to the Ferry building.

We'll set the meeting place for the Rodney Lough Gallery between 12-1pm.

Forecast looks like partly cloudy and hopefully we'll get a sunset and no fog.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Sorry I couldn't make it, the PADI dive course has me running late on my photo submissions :-(
Posted by Lon Overacker on September 18, 2008 at 4:15 PM
Too bad you couldn't make it Enrique, we had a great get time.

I don't believe any of us had met before, but Chris Chamberlain, Ben Glatt, Edward Nunez, Dietrich Gloger(from some little foreign country called Austria I think....) and myself all met in Sausalito to visit some galleries and grab some lunch. We spent so much time at the galleries, bs'ing, talkin' shop etc. that we didn't make it to Muir beach until just after 4pm....

The sky was completely clear as the marine layer had burned off. No dramatic sky, but at least we had late light and I think we all took advantage of that. It was getting dark as we started to pack up and Dietrich announced he couldn't find his camera pack. A search ensued... 5 men, one headlamp, one pen-light and a trecherous, rocky shore. It would have bordered on comical had it not been a serious worry for Dietrich. 2-weeks worth of images, cash, credit cards, everything. He found it - a mere 20ft from where we were standing.

Anyway, we gabbed some more back at the parking lot where we finally had to depart when the park ranger came to lock the gate.

Thanks guys - it was a pleasure meeting all you. I won't get my images back for another week, but would love to see what you came away with. Please post something here.

We should do this again,
Lon

It was really nice meeting you guys. We should definitely do this again. Even though the sky was nothing dramatic I had a great time, it was fun sharing stories, and knowing each other.

Here I am posting 2 of the reflected late light we got last night.

Edward,

SWEET! I would be ecstatic if I got anything back like these - although I know I wasn't pointing my camera at the same subjects.

I like the first for it's near/far perspective; the flow of water around the rock is wonderful. And although the sky was a bust, I like the background with the scattering of rocks in the water.

The second one is surreal and a bit on the mystical side. Kudos to you for standing out in the surf to catch this - I think it paid off big time. My only wish would be a little room on both sides, but that's minor. Love the colors too.

Thanks for posting this already. I did send my film in today.

Lon,

Thanks for the comments. Being in the water is part of every visit I do to the beach  and Initially
it was okay, but driving home I was feeling a bit cold. I usually use waders. I believe you took a picture of
me taking that 2nd shot, It would be interesting to see it just to put it in context.

Nice, that light looks pretty sweet. I should have stuck around that seastack and shot some longer ss shots. Let's make sure we post any photo trips were going on so we can try and get together for another shoot.

Edward,
These are both wonderful. Looks like we(Ben and Me) missed out on some nice light, and a little color. It was fun meeting you, and I look forward to doing it again.

Hi Everyone! I am a bit "jetlaged" still and I decided to process some other shots first. I have some ok ones from the Muir-Beach outing I think. Maybe I have the time to process them today. The ones I saw from everybody involved looked great so far!
Yes that backpack thing. Man, I looked like the complete idiot making you all searching for it, getting really nervous while it was actually quite close to the place we all had the other backpacks. Sorry for causing that , but now it makes for a nice story and you remember me better.
I actually missed most of the direct light as I managed to ruin my own composition by walking right into the foreground leaving footprints. Later on Lon also walked in but that was already after my own were there in the scene so no worries Lon!

One thing I learned here is that although I love meeting like-minded photographers and I had a blast meeting up with you guys I was in a way not in my total trance-like photo mindset i get into when I am enirely alone. Maybe it was also because it was the last day of a great trip and the fact that I had to sit in planes for 13 hrs afterwards - and flying is not my favourite thing to do. Yes yes some lame excuses for some crappy shots I am going to show you, haha!

later
Dietrich

Ok Guys, here's mine! I waited until the sun had set behind the ridge and used a longer exposure to harvest some light and colors on the rocks. This is shot from the place I was standing as Chris and Benjamin returned from their spot further south(east). I guess you know that stack there. I liked the different colors on these rocks and that stuff that sticks on them. I was rearranging this composition quite a bit and again I learned the lesson that minor variations can make quite a difference. I like this one the most.
