Hey all! I flying into Cedar Rapids Iowa Sunday I will be working in the area for 2 weeks. Is there anything fairly close to shot? Never been to that part of the country so I have no idea. I not even sure how much if any time I'll have to get out, just thought I'd ask in case I do have a free hour or two!
Thomas you might try Palasades-Kepler SP it is about as close to there as you get also Union Grove Sp. I have never been to either but they are on my list. Check the Iowa DNR site and you can learn more It has a pic of a falls at Union Grove that I am interested in. I am not sure how the flood affected the park at Palasades-Kepler.

Thomas,
I lived in Iowa City for about five years, half a life-time ago! To the south of Cedar Rapids, there's a big reservoir - Coralville Reservoir. Around the rez, there are several areas of interest. I personally enjoyed visiting the University of Iowa's Macbride Nature Rec Area the most.
And, if you're looking for a drive, then about an hour east of CR is Maquoketa Caves State Park - I've not visited it, but it is on my list of places to visit!
You also might consider checking The Nature Conservancy's website (nature.org), and then working your way to Iowa, and see what TNC properties might be in the area...
Good luck and enjoy,
Tim!
