Back from Glacier National Park
I've finally gotten around to processing some DSLR images from my trip to Glacier National Park in early August:

What an amazing place - I already can't wait to go back. In three quick days we packed in most of the standard views and hikes. Photography was challenging owing to cloudless skies for the first two days. I didn't save a single picture from two sunsets and two sunrises at the Wild Goose Island Overlook at St. Mary Lake.

The image posted here, shot with a Sony Alpha 100 DSLR and Minolta 100 2.8 macro lens at f5.6, is my favorite from the trip. It’s basically this shot (http://www.brettdeacon.com/photo.php?id=359&gallery=Glacier) from a different angle. The rocky beach at the bottom of the trail from the Wild Goose Island overlook where this was taken is well worth a stop. I wish I had taken a 4x5 from here so I could have kept the entire scene in focus. Now I guess I'll have to go back to correct this mistake.

Brett - thanks for posting!

I like this, the only thing I might suggest is that it could use a singular point of interest to allow the eye to rest in a certain spot. Textures and patterns can be very cool but are much stronger with something breaking up the pattern.

Very unique image, Brett. I like how you've managed to pick up the blue sky reflection here. But I REALLY like your linked photo. That image has a lot of impact.

Nice collection Brett. Quite a range of wide scenics, detail photos and wildlife. I think my favorite is the stream photo with the mossy-looking rocks. I like the second to last lake photo too.

Very nice gallery, Brett. Looks like those goats think they own the trail.

I missed your entire gallery earlier ... you definitely captured the essence of Glacier. I like the Iceberg Lake shot a lot.

Thanks very much for the comments everyone. Nat, I really appreciate your feedback about the above image. You're right, a prominent rock or something would have helped. Yet another reason to return to Glacier...

Very nice collection, Brett! We visited GNP for the first time in early August. I don't think the lakes were ever that calm (lots of wind!). Like you said - so many reasons to go back. What a great place.

Although I like this image, I agree with Nat about a center of interest. I prefer the one Jesse linked to. BTW, I really enjoyed your website. You've got some great stuff there.

Thanks guys. Another vote for the image Jesse linked instead of the one I posted. This is very helpful! Sometimes I find that my preferences are a bit quirky compared to others. I have so many "standard" photographs that I'm becoming more attracted to those that are the opposite. Paul, I love the images on your website. The shot of Dream Llake with the frozen waves is stunning!

I too really like the bigger stream rocks photo. Very nice. I also like 365 and 367. What beautiful mountains.

Great shots Brett! 354 and 359 are delicious! You now have me trying to figure out how to get to Glacier in the summer. Beautiful!

A nice collection of images, Brett. Three days just isn't enough at a place like that. I spent 8 days there a number of years ago and the wind never stopped blowing, so you did well with the reflection shots.

Very nice collection. Image 359 is great. I'm hoping to get there next summer. Looks like a fantastic location.

If I didn't mention it when we were emailing earlier, I love the Grinnell Point / Swiftcurrent Lake shots. 362, 364 and 366 also standout amongst an overall strong collection of images.

I like several of your images here Brett, The large river rocks, iceberg, and the muley in velvet... if I keep typing I'll probably list them all. Nice work.
