Normally i shy away from just plain portraits of these, based on the theory that everyones got them, however i found this one and quite liked it

Nice one Jack
As you say often done, and quite easy to photograph - but not easy to get right !
I reckon for this site(not publication as you might need some text space), a tiny bit off the left and some off the top. No big deal though.
Good exposure too.
Cheers

Nowt wrong with this Jack. Just because many people have this type of image on file doesn't mean it's not worth taking. Now you have it on file along with the satisfaction of knowing that it is a well taken / exposed shot. I have seen an awful lot of these (including ones I've taken myself) with blown chest feathers etc. Above all, if you like it then you have achieved your aim.

I hope that I get to take some images of puffins some day!! Perhaps in Maine.

Nice capture. I enjoy images of that creature.

Nothing wrong. I agree with JohnR.
May be a nice one for a magazine cover.

A good portrait. I wonder if just the slightest bit of fill in flash would have worked well here, just enough to give the bird a little bit of 'sparkle', mainly around the facial area.
