I've been hanging around, waiting out the ridiculously dry summer we're having in Kentucky and seeing all the great images being posted. But I took my dog out to a nearby dog park this weekend for a little socialization and came across a very cooperative heron as we were leaving. The dog park is part of a huge city park with a small reservoir lake. Looks like I'll be making more trips over there with a camera. Lots of birds around, and people, too, but an early morning mid week trip should be somewhat peaceful and hopefully productive, too.

Dominic that's about as good as it gets! I wouldn't change a thing!

Outstanding! I love the low perspective. Thanks for sharing.

Sharp and well exposed. Several other things set it apart from most heron shots I've seen: I love the old stump, the out of focus cloudy and blue sky background, and the heron in repose with coiled up neck.

Thanks for the comments!

John, there was not much choice about the low perspective. The "stump" was about 35 or 40 feet tall which was quite useful in getting the cloudy BG.

Dominic, I echo everyone else's comments and I would like to add the the super sharp focus on the eye is a great focal point in the photo.

I like it Dominic ... a different take and/or perspective for this shot of a GBH. Very nice work indeed!
