Hi everyone, I found this site and have just registered after completing and fileing an application becoming a member to "Nature Photographers". I hail from Oconomowoc WI and I consider myself an advanced serious amatuer. The digital SLR revolution has made it possible for me to fulfill my photography itch in a way that was not possible in the strictly film days. Middle age and more disposable income helped too!!!
My passion is wildlife and have found a talent for birds especially. I like to shoot BIH ( birds in habitat) rather than the conventional BOAS ( bird on a stick.
I am an opportunist and carry at least one camera with me most times for those shots that you just stumble on to, But really for me I enjoy the hunt for the shot. Spending time in an area watching to find something to go after. After locating a subject, I then will stalk it or set up a blind in the hopes of getting that truely special shot.
I hope you will enjoy what I can post here and I hope to pick up some tricks and techniques also. So before I babble on< I will leave you with an example of one of my photos.
Blue Wing Teal
Canon 40D Canon EF 100-400 L

Welcome Brian! That post is one nice introduction, beautiful capture. Your situation sounds just like mine: in my 40's, can afford a nice camera, and the digital revolution has opened up a whole new world. For me it's the unbelievable freedom we have in a darkroom, called Photoshop CS3.
Again, great shot. Keep posting!

Brian,
Welcome... as an expatriate now living in the Pacific NW, I can vouch for this group of folks. They are good people and good photogs.
Nice image BTW. I got a lot of bird photography out of my system about 15 years ago, but still enjoy it and still find it challenging.
I have a feeling that though you have good equipment, you would still make good images with average stuff as well.
Welcome......keep posting!

Beautiful shot.
Beautiful shot, BTW. The wake around the duck and the reflection make this shot for me. Looking forward to more.
