Well, Amy and I got back from our Alaska/Yukon trip last Tuesday. It was more vacation than photo excursion but I managed to keep the camera with me at all times. Here's a shot of Mt. McKinley from a helicopter last Monday morning. They say most visitors do not get to see the mountain as it is usually socked in its own weather system. We were lucky and had a chance to see it both days we were in the park.

Really nice shot, Eric. The helicopters give it scale. Is that "The Ride of the Valkyries" I hear?

LOL, indeed. Every time I look at this shot I start thinking that tune.

Morris,
Too funny! Just as I noticed the helicopters, I could hear that music in my head. Then I read your comment! LOL
Oh yes, and nice shot too!

Eric,
I was fortunate enough to see the mountain when I was on the road to Fairbanks from Anchorage. It was late June and absolutly stunning. This reminds me of what I saw when I was there. Just beautiful.

What an amazing sight! The helicopters really add to the story too. I really like the layering of the mountain forms as they gradually fade from dark brown up into the Mountain.

Great image Eric! You are indeed lucky to have had such a view. I have climbed to the summit on two different expeditions, so I can attest to the abundance of cloudy weather. On both climbs we spent the first several days in clouds and snow lower on the mountain but were finally able to punch through to better weather higher on the mountain. Often the top three to six thousand feet of the peak are above the clouds, but you have to fly up above 14,000 feet to see it. Not to say that the weather doesn't affect the higher reaches of the peak as well. On my first climb back in 1998 we had a 20 hour window of good weather in which we made it to the top and then were pinned down at high camp for another three days in raging wind and snow. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some good memories. Your shot really captures the scale and drama of that mountain and the light on the FG hills is beautiful.

Twice Sean! You the man! I bet it was exhilarating.

Cool shot. I like the shadows, just enough detail in them.

It hollers "Give me back the surfboard, Lance" to me..
