In response to the recent Elk post:
I took this last Wednesday evening just after the sun went behind the Divide in Moraine Park, near the Bear Lake Road.

And another of the same bull before the sun went down. Same camera info.

Nice shots, Don. These bring back some great memories for me, as a kid it was an annual ritual for my family to head up to RMNP to watch the rut. I like the body position in the 1st, but you gotta love the warm light in the 2nd. Wow, he's quite a bull.

Both are very good, but that first one is superb!

Both are great. My only nit, and it is a small one, is I don't like the dead branches behind him in the first one. The second's warm light is just magnificent.

I agree Morris, those branches are a real distraction. I told him to move further to the left, but he didn't take direction well (could be a language translation problem, or a hormonal override) and instead ran after a couple of cows off to the right which placed a bush between him and me. I didn't spend much time with him as bull elk photos are a dime-a-dozen anyway, I just enjoy shooting them when I have the time.

Don, excellent captures and technique. Man that 600 is tack sharp! I have so many elk shots I have taken to eating them instead of photographing them! O.k I am sure someone will flame me for that but they are tastey!

The first one is great! The light in the second is nice, but his butt is a little to prominent.

Beautiful photos Don. I am hoping to at see some scenes like these this weekend in YNP. I am not sure I will actually capture any on sensor, but it would great to see them. Excellent photos! :toast:
