I get there a couple of times a year, but photography is generally pretty low on the list even when I plan for it. Mostly family visits. You're right about the lack of Hawaii photos on NPN in general though. What's with that?
Well, there's not much there in the way of native wildlife to begin with. I'm not too interested in Mongoose, Pigs or Turkeys... To find the good stuff, you're ususally high in the rainy undergrowth where photography is tough. The birds are very elusive. It can take days to get a few good photos of endemic birds. Plus to get to where the natives are, it's usually a long hike or a rough ride. (which I don't mind at all actually). I just got back from the Big Island and have posted a few photos with more to come. Usually I spend about half of my time in Hawaii underwater. This trip I shot HD video underwater...about 9 hours worth... dolphins, sea turtles...you name it. Certainly some potential for good landscapes though. So let's see some of yours!
I would add that you can find Nene geese in the upper elevations of Maui on the slopes of Haleakala Crater. But they are endanged so be careful not to disturb them or the rangers might not like you too much.
