A couple from Bisti
The family and I made Farmington, NM our base of operations for Labor Day weekend. It was a pretty drive from Divide, CO but the drive time ate into exploring time. We managed to spend an afternoon at the Bisti Wilderness and most of a day a Chaco Canyon. I also shot sunrise at Shiprock. All three areas were great to see. I really want to get back to Bisti with more time to explore - what a cool place. Chaco was great too. We got chased out by thunderstorms.

I've got a handful of shots that I'm working with. These winged hoodoos are very intriguing offering a myriad of compositions and views - changing with every angle. The pre-sunset light filtered through the cloud layers was great!

C&C welcome!

The etched detail of these small hoodoos caught my eye. The late afternoon light and yellow-grayish rock/soil made for a pretty monotone scene so I thought I'd try it in B&W. This one is toned a little.
I'm interested in people's thoughts on this one.

Looks like a great weekend. I really like the 1st shot, wouldn't mind having the shadows opened up just a bit. The monotone is nice too, shows some nice textures in the hoodoos.

I really enjoyed both of these Kalin, great job.

I like the lighting and texture in the BW hoodoo. The background shadows really help isolate the subject.

I agree the first would really benefit by opening the shadows.

The b&w is superb - light, detail, comp... all excellent!

I'm in agreement with the others on the first; actually, I think the whole non-sky portion could use an exposure boost.

I agree with all comments. The perspective on the toned image is wonderful.

The B&W is really nicely toned.

The color image would be better if the foreground was brightened slightly.

Very nice images you have here, Kalin. I have to agree with the other comments too. I also think that darkening the left side of the BW image a little, to make the etched rock pop even more, would make an already excellent image even more excellent. :toast:

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the feedback as always.

I'll post the shiprock shots soon and any from Chaco that work out.
