Morning in the Gulch

What do you think of this one, it was a mid morning shot in some pretty tough light and unfortunately a cloudless sky. It was a beautiful scene, but I'm not sure if I've captured it here.

Unfortunately I can't remember the name of this gulch area, it was off hwy 91 going towards leadville...

Comments suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

I think that may be Mayflower Gulch. Nich shot. :toast:

Although some sunrise light and/or clouds might have been beneficial, this is still pretty darn nice. The light isn't too harsh, and you've got some nicely saturated, pleasing colors.

It's not very noticeable in this shot, but the combo of a wide-angle and polarizer can create an uneven sky due to uneven polarization. The right side of your sky is a little darker than the left. Depending on your orientation to the sun and how wide you shoot, it can become problematic. If it does, one option is to take one shot w/ the polarizer and one without (for the sky), then blend.

It looks like it could use a slight tweak of contrast to get rid of a very slight milky appearance, but it is a really nice shot, especially for midday light. You're looking over Clinton Reservoir, one drainage to the south of Mayflower Gulch.

wow, nice shot, I don't think the difference in sky ctone bothers me that much like mentioned by rick.

This has some nice lighting, I think I shall give this area a try here in the next day or two when I am feeling better, maybe try an evening shot of this, thanks for the inspiration

Yeah, what Todd said. And if you go up there in winter, it's an easy hike up to Mayflower Gulch - an excellent place to enjoy a frigid sunset.

Beautiful image Kevin! If you had a few puffy clouds this would have really been even more stunning but only Todd seems to be able to control those!

Thanks guys.

clinton gulch sounds right, I need to write that down for future reference.

I agree about the uneven sky Rick, I do struggle with that from time to time. In some shots it doens't bother me as much, but some it does. I will have to try that approach for blending, I've always wondered what people are doing to try and even it out.

I think it looks nice. No problem with a cloudless sky.

Todd is correct, as usual, that is Clinton Resvr. and the mt behind is Fletcher Mt. Nice shot, I would increase the contrast using a contrast mask on just the mountains, with a little more contrast on the left half of the photo than the right half. Even though it has no clouds, this is the type of photo you see most often on tourist postcards.

Here is another shot, meant to post this earlier but I've been out of town for a few days.

What do you guys think of this comp.
