Does anyone know if there has been any color change just yet? Does anyone know what to expect this fall based on seasonal patterns/rain this past summer? I do realize it can be a crap shoot, though.

I'll be there the week of 9/25 thru 10/3, staying at Signal Mtn. I've been there on occasion a number of times before but always seemed to catch the colors a few days to a week too early, usually around the 20th of Sept.

Thanks all.

The fellow who frames my photos just got back from there, and he said there was no signs of Autumn color change yet. It's still a bit early everywhere in the Intermountain West.

Best of luck during your time there!

Carl,
I called a park ranger yesterday asking the same info; I’ll be up there on the 25th till 30th. I’ll be spending 2 days in Yellowstone and 2 days in the Tetons. The park ranger said colors had just started to change in Yellowstone but not down in the Tetons yet. But the weather last week was much cooler like we had down here. I was up there last year the 3rd week in Sept and the colors were great. Hopefully they’ll be just as good.

Your timing sounds perfect to me. You never know from year to year, but the end of September/very early October is a good guess.

I'll be heading up there tomorrow for 2-3 weeks. Usually the last week in September is a winner. Hard to tell from year to year. YNP usually turns first due to the elevation.

I'm up here now. I spent last Thursday thru Monday in Yellowstone and only saw about a half dozen trees that had started to turn. Then I came down to the Tetons Wednesday, and there is no sign here yet. However, a fairly decent sized storm came through today and I wouldn't be surprised to see snow at the tops of the mountains tomorrow. It was much cooler today and they say will storm most of tomorrow too, so the weather patterns may be changing which will help bring the colors to the mountains. So your arrival dates may be exactly right.

Just spoke to someone who works in the Park and although the ground foliage has begun to show some nice color, the aspens and cottonwoods are still green. She did indicate she drove thru Oxbow Bend this morning and the trees there are still pretty green.

Still a number of days off. I hope when I am out there in 10 days that has changed.
