El Capitan- Guadalupe Mountains NP
El Capitan in Guadlaupe Mountains National Park. The Guadalupes are the worlds largest exposed reef. They rise over a mile on their western escarpment off the desert floor. This angle is about a 3000' rise on their eastern side. The range ends in a sheer "V" formation known as El Capitan. The mountain on the right is Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas at about 8900'. The view from Guadalupe Peak over El Cap is like being on the prow of a ship.

Very nicely done. Good detail.
Does El Capitan tilt that much or is that an image perspective problem?

Darren, beautifully composed image with a wealth of elements to enjoy. I'm really glad to see some images from Texas being posted. If they're all like this one, keep 'em coming! :toast:

BTW, welcome to CSNP! :wavey:

Oh that's very cool Darren. Wonderful detail in the image, composed well and nice sky to go with it.

Thanks, glad y'all like.

El Cap should be plumb as this was on 4x5 making use of rise. Now The film may have been scanned slightly off, although this look pretty right to me. The angle I have on it is a bit different than most views-which are usually from the west or south (I am under the SE corner). The mountain takes on a differrent view from all sides. I make regular trips here and have yet to tire of it.

I can see why you wouldn't tire of it. It looks like one of those places with endless photographic opportunities. Great shot!
