Hi folks. Well, it's that time of year again. The evening temps are cooling and the early morning temps have a little chill in the air that wasn't there a couple weeks ago. It got down to 38 yesterday morning, 41 this morning.

The rabbit brush is blooming everywhere on the valley floor and up high. I love the color of the RB but my allergies don't! We took a hike up McGee Canyon yesterday to about the 9200 ft elev. Color started to sporadically show up around 8500ft or so w/ more around 9000.
I'm guestimating peak won't show 'til last weekend of sept or 1st wknd of oct. Sorry no pics from yesterday.

I've heard that color is showing up at Sabrina and South Lake. I plan to head up there this afternoon and will post here what I see.

We had some good Tstorms last week between Indy and BP which resulted in a dusty of snow on Williamson and the surrounding pks above 13k. It was still there on friday.

Sorry I haven't been very active. I've been working in construction since may on the 395 4 lane proj. between Indy and fish springs rd. and will continue to do so until nov. It has required a lot of energy and all I do on the weekend is relax! My photography has suffered as a result. I am planning on doing fall color somewhere around these parts though!
Bishop Creek Canyon, North Lake: colors are coming along more so on the north fork side. The orange/tangerine colored trees across from sabrina cg are close to peak(smaller trees). North lake still has a ways to go as well. Overall, it's still way too early yet.

Hope all is well w/ everyone and I'll try and give y'all a heads-up when colors are closer to peak.

Here's a link to a shot from last year I took at NL. mingling

Cory, good to see you back on line here. I sincerely hope the trip to Hawaii was a good one and gave you a break from the project you have been working on along 395. Although, I hate to see any progress at all on the eastern side, I will say the making of the highway into 4 lanes is a real safety improvement. I took a look at your link here to flicr, that was a really super image. I have tried to pull off similar shots over the years with little success. That was a wonderful example for sure.
I will try calling, cellphone permitting of course, you as I pass through Bishop on or around the 28th. If you are open maybe we can hit some coffee or lunch.

Hi Cory,

I am happy to hear you are well! Thanks for the update! It looks like some of us will be in Lee Vining around the end of Sep-early Oct. I can hardly wait!

Be sure to add your info to the CANP Roll Call thread, above.

Thanks for checking in and be safe out there,

-P

Up in the Hope Valley area over the weekend (Hwy 88), temps in the mid 30's at 0630, aspens at elevation, 8,000' or so, starting to turn, the trees along 88 at Sorenson's and down the canyon along 88 have more yellow than the rest of the area, beautiful day with high clouds.

Hey Cory,

Glad to hear from you and I hope you get a chance to take some time off and join us at the end of the month. I will be up there 10/2-5 and others will be there ahead of that. So whatever the color is at that time... well, it is what it is. Can't wait.

Thanks for the report - keep us posted.

Take it easy,
Lon

Guys,

I am planning on being up there from October 3rd, Friday until October 6th, Monday. I was planning on hanging around Bishop as we did two years ago in the FunShop, but I will be leading a private worshop for one guy. So where ever you guys decide to hang out let me know and please keep me in the loop. Really looking forward to the trip this year.
