Well i have been in the states 2 weeks today-a very busy time as you can imagine-I managed to get some new Nikon gear delivered late last week so went to the coast yesterday to give it a workout,I have never used Nikon gear before so its all fingers and thumbs at the moment,Initial thoughts are that is feels great quality wise,The metering seems less likey to blow the highlights than the Canon and the 200-400 is a beaut,It was 90 degrees and bright sunshine yesterday so not ideal conditions but you take what you get,I chose this shot as it shows the great detail that the D3 gives,I have images with the bird in a better position with a catchlight etc but this shows the sand blowing up the best, I was given a tip off from a forest guard about a track where Black bears had been showing so i got in position as the sun went down and was lucky enough to have one cross my path but too distant for a shot-worth going back-The migration starts in a couple of weeks so i will be back then

He does have 2 but 1 is pulled up-One thing i forgot to mention is that i took over 100 images and only 1 was oof/soft-thats something i would not have never got with the MK3 Canon where i would have expected a much higher percentage of images oof/soft

I wish I could find someone to say something bad about the D3 then I wouldnt feel so bad about not having one!
Nice Sanderling BTW, like the sand blowing around, probably shows better in a larger image.

Good to hear you're settling in and are now able to get back out there photographing.
A very nice shot to begin with and I really like the wind-blown sand all around the bird.
Look forward to more.
Nice bird and LA.
