Canon 1D Mark II
Canon 24-70mm F/2.8 L @ 70mm
Two images blended via HDR in Photomatix Pro
1/8 sec @ F/8.0 ISO 100
1/25 sec @ F/8.0 ISO 100
This was taken 3 years ago at the bridge over Ohanapecosh River just below Silver Falls looking south. I was standing on the bridge itself to get this image. I took two exposures planning to do a manual blend in Photoshop. That "manual blend" never really made me happy so it sat on my hard drive these past few years waiting for me to re-discover it.
So a couple days ago I was digging for some images to tinker with in Photomatix Pro and found these. The initial blend had some issues in the water that were easily taken care of in Photoshop with the blur tool.
The end product came out rather nice!
So lemme know what yall think of this one please!
Thanks!

Very nice scene and great work managing the light in this one. The aqua-colored water and warm hues of the rock and moss provide a nice contrast to the ubiquitous greens. The stream acts as a great lead-in, as well as being a compelling element on its own. Only nit is the snag on the right, but at least it doesn't protrude out over the water.
Nice shooting!

Very nice water color. Good comp! Looks like a beautiful day in the Park.

The HDRing shows in this one and its really not my flavor. The trees in the BG look too gray to me and that patch of bright moss in the LLC is just as bright as some of the sun-lit areas - thats the sort of thing that bugs me about HDR. Sure is a stark contrast to what that gorge looks like post-flood though, too bad it won't be that green again for a long time.
Looks like the PNW version of "The Narrows." Seriously. I love it. Really nice processing, Rick.

Bryan that is how the trees looked that day with the sun coming in low from left to right.

I don't doubt that's how the lighting looked, looks pretty accurate to what I've seen there in the past, but the image seems flatter than it should - to me - because of the lack of contrast. That's the big issue with HDR in my opinion, its hard to not kill the depth of a picture. Might I suggest bumping up the blacks by 2-3 points to see what that does (post Photomatix) ?

OK that sounds reasonable. I'll give it a go Bryan. I also discovered that I actually have three exposures of this scene not just two. So I've re-processed this in Photomatix. Expect an updated version shortly.

let me know what ya think of this one. I did some selective use of the adjustment brush with some added contrast in LR 2.0.

ok so after getting the updated image online the differences are almost non-existent to see... More work is "needed"..........

alrighty - another attempt with more contrast and added saturation in the trees all via the adjustment brush in LR 2.0. This time I sized it so I can add it directly into the thread instead of an outside hosted image...

Yeah, that's definitely got a little more pop. Still seems to me to be missing something, can't put my finger on it right now though.

Rick,
I really like the image! The snag doesn't bother me, and I love the patches of sunlight on the water.
If you think it needs more contrast, sometimes twiddling with the Shadow Clipping in PhotoMatix is useful... I find it has a 'critical' point in its adjustment range, i.e. there's a point in its range where it starts to make a significant difference in the image and until you get to that point it has virtually zero effect. Are you using the new beta version or the commercial release?
