Well,

It finally came, the long awaited Canon 5DII. I thought it would never come as I watched the Sony A900 and Nikon D700 hit the scene. It really seemed like Canon was asleep at the wheel. I was getting ready to sell all my Canon lenses especially after Sony announced a new 16-35 Zeiss which I had also been waiting for.

But now it seems like my patience paid off as Canon has really put a great 21 MP sensor into the 5DII and some other nice features. Nikon will still be releasing their 20+ mp flagship. But it will be higher end and a lot more pricey.

The people who seem the most upset at Canon are the 'faithful' 1DS3 owners who paid $8K. Take a look at the PNW forum... But with Sony showing their hand a year ago I stated then that the days of $8K 20MP DSLRs was over. Thank you Sony!

So who plans to upgrade their old, or not so old gear? I am still shooting with my ancient 10D and finally ready for a significant upgrade.

10D, wow--you definitely deserve that upgrade, Derek! I am pretty contempt with my 30D, and without additional funds, I won't be able to spring for that 5D for some time I'm afraid. I will be living in Santa Cruz for the next 9months though, not too far away from Monterey. When you get that new 5D, we should definitely go out and shoot to see how she runs!

Benjamin,

That sounds great! Over the next nine months there will be a lot to shoot around our parts. I am really looking forward to Winter and some big surf along the coast. It really adds to the drama of the seascapes. The 5D II is said to be coming out around Nov. which is just in time for winter fun. Another thought - one of my favorite winter spots in CA is Yosemite - man does it look spectacular in white.

Anyway shoot me an email and we'll talk about schedules and potential shoots.

Derek

I have been waiting for the second generation 5D for a very long time, decided not to buy a 5D after the first rumors of the MkII appeared on the Internet. So I will have a lightly used 40D for sale in the near future.
