Hi,
I just got a new canon lens, 17-40 f4 L, on the lens I have a distance and Infinity mark window ( canon calls it a Infinity compensation Mark), can I use this to find the Hyperfocal Distance, or do I also an f-stop ring to line up with the infinity mark? Thanks for your help

Mike is right. The markings on this lens will not help you find a hyperfocal distance. The infinity compensation mark is meant for infrared photography.
