I'm looking at buying a paper cutter because I'm starting to use roll paper more often for my Designjet 130. Up until now I've used a homemade setup, but it's very difficult to hold the paper still and get a clean, straight cut with a blade.
I want something that will do at least 24" wide paper. My mat cutter does 40" but it doesn't have a straight-edge attachment and it's kind of a pain to measure, mark and cut the paper using it. Besides, I'd use the cutter for trimming images anyway.
I don't want to go with the roll attachment for the printer; the printer is picky enough, I don't want to mess with even more things on it.
Any experience would be of help.
In a word, Rotatrim. They come in a broad range of sizes ranging from 12" to a monster 99" model. Lots of accessories including roll paper holders.
We use a couple of them in our studio and they're brilliant for clean accurate cuts and ease of use. Sheets of 8 wallet size prints in a portrait package? No problem. It's not as fast as die cutting, but nowhere near as expensive either. In truth we use ours for cutting everything from photo paper to mat board and even cardboard. Blades are replaceable, but even after 20 years of abuse, ours still seems as sharp as the day we bought them.

Thanks, Hank. I'd heard that Rotatrim were good, and I wondered if they were the best or if there was something else out there that I hadn't heard of. Somewhere in my ramblings on the web I saw some comments about Rotatrims, and it seems that there were distinct opinions about the different models/sizes. I'll have to try and find that.

Randall,
Thanks for the info. The link did not work for me, but I checked out Neolt. I had never heard of them before, but it looks like they are a quality product.
