Shoot waterfalls

I had hoped to get some alpine hiking in today, but with the weather I knew visibility would be poor. The light was great for gorge shooting however. Eagle Creek is amazingly green for the last week of summer, with the only thing turning being the poison oak.

This shot is from below punchbowl falls this evening. This is a fairly standard view, but It was a bit challenging finding a good angle that minimized glare. I'm curious to see if any of you find the glare in this one distracting. ( I personally am not sure yet )

Hi Bryan,

I like the picture, the clear water in the front and the fall in the BG.
I think one minor point is the fall itself. It's not complete. Imo the fallen tree across the picture is disturbing the fall. I would try to get the fall completely between the tree and the wall.
I don't know if that is possible because I do not know that place.

I have gone past the wall (wearing a wetsuit in October in a low snow year, yet I still wound up to my ears in water - it was amusing for my friend to watch). The problem with getting past the log is that you lose the whole canyon view. There's been lots of talk about "taking out" that tree. If that ever happens, I'll be happy to watch from above and administer first aid.

Nice work. I'm digging the rocks in the water, and am undecided on the log, i kinna like it there, am i weird? :)

Very nice comp. I really like the rocks in the foreground. I wish that dang tree would wash away but it sure doesn't look like its moving anytime soon.

Thanks all for the comments. I feel the log adds something to the scene but im not a fan of the way it blocks the falls from view. I couldnt find an angle that revealed the entire waterfall while keeping an interesting foreground. All said, I wouldnt be sad to see that thing out of there.

Kosta - I made it to chest deep with the waders before turning back. Its still 8 ft. or more up at the narrow part of the canyon. My mind was pondering the possibility of an inflatible raft and paddle on the hike out.

It's rare that a mossy log will annoy me, but this one is so far, the champion of annoying logs.

I really like this photo though Bryan. Nice work.

Just for fun, here's my attempt at cloning it about 4 years ago...

Curtis, thats great! All we need is someone to let us borrow their "air crane" helicopter for the afternoon

Hell with a crane, I'll volunteer to climb up that sucker and saw it in half if someone will set belay and provide me a pair of those tree-climbing shoe spikey things.

This is the first time I've heard of any talk about getting rid of the tree.

I must admit, I've yet to hike Eagle Creek. I've been wanting to shoot that fall ever since seeing my first picture of it, but that was a view taken pre-log. I'd been hoping that I'd get a chance to shoot there after it was gone, but, from everyone else's photos, it doesn't look like natural forces will move it for years. Should we send a brigade of nature photographers with canoes and chainsaws?
