Okay, maybe not in Moab, but the La Sals sure are looking good. The higher elevation aspens are coming along very nicely. Lots of red and orange scrub oak, too. Even found a few maples today. If I had to guess I'd say the La Sals still have 2 weeks of great color to photograph given that many aspen stands and lots of scrub oak at lower elevations are still green.
The attached photo is just a snapshot of what it looked like on one of two hikes Melissa and I did today. I got lots of great intimate nature stuff (not THAT kind of intimate nature, Todd!) that I'll be sharing over the next few days. And, you can bet that I'll be spending every day in the La Sals until that color is gone.

Egads, those mountains need some snow STAT! Regardless, this is a beauty.
(got the book, btw, and will be responding in kind soon...thanks!)

Oh yes, they could most definitely use some snow. Melissa quickly tired of me saying, "Man, if only we get a little snowstorm tonight."
Anyone bored with the same ol' beautiful fall scenes in Colorado? Come on over and we'll trek through the La Sals!

Thanks for the report, Bret. The La Sals are on my list of places to hit this fall. Just gotta figure out when. Nice shot, despite the lack of snow.

Nice Bret, wish I didn't live over a thousand miles away or I would take you up on that trek through the La Sals...

Bret, I can't wait to see some of your shots! The one you posted on ESS is WONDERFUL! Why didn't I think of using that approach with our Estes winds?

VEry nice. The color up here in N Utah is coming along as well.

Glad to hear about the color. Wish they had snow too. I'll be there in two weeks with 25 folks from my camera club doing our own trip/workshop. Hope we have some snow by then.

Darren: In two weeks you won't find much color left in the La Sals. The cottonwoods should be on their way to peak color, though.

Bret- Thanks for the info. We will just have to make do with what nature gives us. I am really there for Canyonlands anyway (I'll be camping out at Islands in the Sky), fall color is just a bonus.
