I remember someone mentioning last year that a nice viewpoint of the Sneffels Range could be seen around Log Hill Road near Ridgway.
Anyone know where that is? Thanks!

I'll be driving the entire San Juan Skyway this coming weekend and will post a report when I return. I'll be driving a green Jeep if you're in the area.

Funny thing, John. I was just researching the same thing. Here's the directions...

I'll probably be heading farther north this weekend or I'd join ya.

I believe there is a sign for Log Hill, John. The road number is 24a. The link that Guy posted has good directions. Maybe Jack B. will chime in with additional info.

Thanks, folks!
That's exactly the thread I was looking for, Guy.

John, I shot some panos up there this summer. Really a great view from the turnout Kalin mentioned in the above thread. I hit it at sunrise and then waited around until the sun lit the valley below, really cool! The directions in the link above are correct. However, it might save you a few minutes if you know to take a left when you reach the T on 24A. That will wind around and take you up the hill. There's also a neat little park at the top next to the water tower. The views aren't as open but it's a nice view also. I didn't explore the park to much so maybe you'll find something up there. There were a bunch of deer hanging around the morning I was there. Here's a link to a rough map that I used to help find my way around.

The park is located on Tower Road S.

Stan, the Sneffels Range is oriented East-West, so it works well for both sunrise and sunset.

Better check out Last Dollar Road too.

I'll be looking for you, Stan.
Arizona plates, right?

Stan, I only shot this location at sunrise, but as Bill states I'm sure it would be a nice sunset location also.

Here's the exact directions to get to the best viewpoint overlooking the valley: Go to the top of Log Hill Mesa. Just as you get to the top, take the first right on Ponderosa Dr. Go east to Pine Dr. and take a right. Go a couple hundred yards to Ash Ct. and take a right. This short gravel road will look like it comes to a dead end on a culdesac. There will be a 2 track dirt road at the very end of the culdesac. Take this into the trees for several hundred yards and park there. Walk to the edge and enjoy the view.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying this lot many years ago when it was about half the price it is today.

Hey, Tony, have you checked on the price recently ?
Who knows, it might be a bargain.

Thanks for the tip on the viewpoint.
I usually just turn out at a widespot in the road, about 2/3 of the way up.
This sounds like a much better location.

Bill, current price is $450k for just under 5 acres - not a bargain since it's been on the market at this price for over a year now. If you go up there, you'll notice some very small yellow signs. It's public access from the signs to the edge of the escarpment - about a 50' setback. So, feel free to walk along the entire rim since the property owners can't say a thing about anyone being there as long as you're on the south side of the signs. The covenants also won't let you cut down any trees to improve your view. Too many restrictions and too high of a price for my tastes. But, oh what a view!
