Didnt see this posted here so I thought I would share:

Looks like Leica is one-upping Canon and the other full frame boys offering a sensor that is 56% larger than full frame measuring 30x45mm. At 37.5MP it trumps the Canon and Sony offerings. I have always heard Leica glass is great, Im tempted to trade in my 1DsIII for this rig!

I think you might have to trade in more than your 1DsIII, Andy! Maybe some body parts and your first born. I cannot imagine what a Leica MF system would cost. Sure would like to try one out though!

I'm not saying its going to be cheap but at 30x45mm I dont think that is medium format. Isnt full frame medium format 54x40mm? At least that is what the new Phase One P65+ has in it!

You could have a door #1 a Leica with no lenses or door #2 a Honda Pilot and a new 5D2 with extra cash for a few trips.

It does look nice though......

Wow, thats a chunk of change, where did you find the price?

And you'd probably have to spend a similar amount to have a decent array of lenses. Wow, this would be an incredible set-up, but way too spendy for all but the lottery winners.

Now, if Canon could put something like this together for the 5D Mk-3! (Just kidding, I know the lens coverage wouldn't work...)

Heck, they should give the body away to anyone willing to buy 3 of their lenses.

The specs look great. I'm sure it would make a wonderful landscape camera. Too bad there are so few landscape photographers that could afford it.

I hope they are successful in their bold attempt to fill this new market niche, but this is a tough economy for launching such a system. Since Leica is privately owned, at least they don't have to answer to shareholders.

I believe that Leica has designed new lenses for this system so who is to say Canon couldnt do the same if they adopted a larger format? That would be pretty sweet! I just hope their new lenses would perform better than their current crop of wide angles. Im getting pretty frustrated with them at the time being. I was tempted to get the new Nikon 14-24 but when I found out you cant use ND Grads on it that was a deal killer for me. Maybe the new Zeiss 21mm.......???

Here's an Wall Street Journal article on the recent turmoil at Leica. I found it an interesting read.
It doesn't leave me with a lot of confidence that they have the resources to pull this off.
