Feeding Sora
A little trophy for my patience. Sora's are very shy and reclusive and I comitted myself to several excursions to photograph one. I finally waded out into the marsh one morning to a spot where I could hear the call of several around me. Standing perfectly still waist deepin the water for about an hour, I caught this guy out of the corner of my eye and then waited another 20 minutes for him to cear the reeds and grass and offer me a series of shots.

Canon 40D Canon EF 100-400
400mm ISO 200
F/7.1 @ 1/320 sec

I would like to see the entire reflection and it would be nice if the grass going up to the beak wasn't around but given the effort you went through to get a great photo I would just be nitpicking.

Happy to see your effort rewarded. Best Sora image I have ever seen (only) I will have to make more of an effort to see if I can find one around here, don't think I have ever seen one.

Very impressive - shot and the effort! Yeah, I, too, haven't seen a Sora photo, so very impressive!

Brian, nice shot and even better story on the importance of being Patient. I too am impressed as I've never seen nor heard of this bird before. Congrats to you!!!

Way to go for sticking with it - putting the time and effort in seems to be 90% of the battle oftentimes. Nice capture!

The only drawback is the reed in front of his beak, but I'd be very happy with this shot, regardless! I've never seen nor heard of the Sora either, so thanks for sharing this, Brian!
