Here is a scene from Big Bend National Park. The rock patterns are in the Grapevine Hills area of the park. Most folks make the hike here for the balanced rock image. I did that too, but really liked the patterns on the rocks here. I need to get back to this spot for first light with the 4x5.

The patterns are very interesting. Big Bend really looks like an interesting place. Endless formations and structures. Would make for lots of shooting time. Definitely worth spending time on with your 4x5 and some early morning or evening light.

Some interesting geology went into forming those rocks. Too bad it didn't add a bit more color and contrast to the mix! Good photo.
Your colors looks quite natural for Big Bend, i.e., a bit washed out. With digital photos it is always tempting to improve on what nature has done . . . simply because we can. But first we have to decide if we are capturing nature as-it-is or expressing our artistic inclinations. You have faithfully opted for the former.

First of all, the scenry is beautiful! I can only imagine what you could do with your 4 x 5 (but don't keep us in suspense too long). I like the play of the subtle warm & cool tones in the fg rock and all the visual interest fg to bg. More contrast and sharpening would punch this one up a bit but I don't mind waiting for the film version. Thanks for sharing Darren.

Thanks for comments. It will be next spring before I make it back outthere, but this is an image I'd like to do at first light with the 4x5. This one was handheld. I had packed everything up and was hiking out when I saw the scene The light was harsh too, so I decided against using Velvia and resetting up with the view camera and took a quick grab fairly wide open with the XTI. I was sure it would be blown out in the sky bu the RAW had more than I expected and I thought it did ok.
