Though I'm sure no one tires of the beautiful images posted lately of Bear Lake in fall, I'll share something a little different. Let me just say - the La Sals are blowing my mind! I did a 55 mile motorcycle ride in the mountains today before work and the color just keeps getting better. Here's a little something from today's trip. I'll be up there again today.
I'm telling you folks, the La Sals easily compete with the best fall color I've seen anywhere!

That is some sweet colour Brett, especially as there is a mixture of yellows and reds!. I like your comp, the valley cutting diagionally through the frame works great!.

Beautiful color indeed, Brett! I'm always looking for locations more "off the beaten path", and would love to see the La Sals sometime. Any predictions what the color will look like a week from now?

I know, Bret, I know. The aspens are very big and healthy there too, plus they can get great last light. I've always wanted to shoot there in primetime fall, but it's so hard to motivate to leave the San Juans.

Looks like awesome conditions Bret. Thanks for sharing!!

Bill: There will still be a lot of color left in a week. I'd say the aspens are only 30% changed and mostly at higher elevations. Lots and lots of green still on the mountain.

Gorgeously bright autumn image for sure! A motorcycle, hmmm! Did you ditch your Toy Cruiser? Where do you stash the tripod?
Posted by Bret Edge on September 24, 2008 at 4:55 PM
Don: Nope, still have the FJ. The motorcycle is an enduro and gets about 60 MPG. It gets me where I'm going much faster, too.
I carry a backpack with the tripod in the shovel pocket and the rest of the gear inside the pack. Works out well once you get used to having the weight back there when you're riding off-road.

Geez, Brett, doyou have a deal with the UT tourist dept or something?
Well, you almost have me sold, cept without a motorcycle i just cant afford to burn any more gas than im gonna this week!

Stan: Maybe I should make a deal with them! I'm seriously living in a state of awe these days. The hillside in this photo is 21 miles from my house. I was literally giddy all day yesterday while exploring up there and I'm itching to get up there again. Tomorrow!

That is some AWESOME color. Love the comp too. You are one lucky SOB to live so close to red rocks, canyons AND awesome fall foliage. Enjoy the fall show up there the next few days, and can't wait to see what else you get.
