Rock Creek Canyon, VLL
Canon XTI Kit Lens @ 21mm, f11 @ 1/200, ISO 800, CPL, WB: Cloudy Hand Held. I've lived in SoCal since 1967, never knew about this place, It's very beautiful up there, did a 2 hr hike into the VLL last month, light was not the greatest, this is one of the small lakes, got there around noon. thanks everyone for telling me about this canyon :wavey:

Yes, Little Lakes Valley is incredible! This is a nice shot, although I think better light would make it pop. I like the foreground.

The large peak just left of center is Bear Creek Spire. The two big peaks on the far skyline are Mounts Dade and Abbot. If you go there again, be sureto hike up to Morgan Pass: The view is wonderful!

Danny, please post your info on the CANP Roll Call topic at the top of our forum page. I will then add you to the mebers list. Welcome!

Danny,

You threw me off with VLL - Valley of the Little Lakes? LLV is beautiful. I went backpacking there last summer, unfortunately the Santa Barbara fire screwed up the visibility.... :-( It's quite a popular destination because of it's relatively easy access.

Anyway, this is a great image - especially for midday light. I think you've compensated for that by choosing this composition with the emphasis on the lake and submerged rocks. Very pretty.

Danny, Easy little hike isn't it. So clear clean and prestine. Gorgeous view and compostition. I love the transparency to the water. The place brings back memories of my first high altitude Sierra Light Encounter. If you keep going up the trail to Gem Lakes you can walk(maybe a tiny bit of scrambling) up and over the faint trail through the hillside of rocks and find a nice very secluded unnamed lake under the Bear Creek Spire.

The water tastes great out of a filter of course. I was planning on taking my girlfriend backpacking here for her first time because it was so easy last month but was late on getting the permit so I took her to Onion Valley up and over Kearsarge Pass on a little 17 mile trip. She didn't complain so I kept her.

Danny,
Very nice shot and welcome to CANP. The whole Rock Creek area is fantastic. You should see it when there is still snow on the peaks. Best Regards,

Steve, Michael, thanks for the comments. Steve, I was Huffin' and Puffin' on this hike, I haven't gone hiking for a while at this altitude at least, it was a nice workout for me, fortunately my son was there to support me
