thought i'd post a landscape or two to get some help since it isn't my strong point, this is a beach in south-east scotland the headland there is St Abbs for those that know the area, if i remember correctly i didn't use a grad for this so i merged a correctly exposed shot with one that had been darkened a stop in raw processing to get the colour in the right hand corner
i know very little about landscape so any help/critique would be greatly appreciated

Great lighting and interesting foreground colours to contrast the sunset.
A couple of minor nits, there is a touch of barrel distortion on the sea horizon that can be simply corrected in PS - due to the extreme wide angle setting of 12mm
The green rocks in the foreground unfortunately form a ring that the eye tends to follow round, rather than form a simpler leading line to the sunset/horizon. 4 steps to the left and thus removing the three right foreground rocks may have given a better leading line? (but that depends on furher rocks to the left.....
Nice to see some more landscapes from you. I agree with all of Mikes points. My main nit though is the saturation - it is just too high. I've had a quick go at a repost with some suggestions. I've cropped out the rock far left to emphasis the square relationship between the rocks. I've desaturated it quite a lot and shifted the purples in the water more towards blue. I've also used a gradient to burn in the edges and try to focus the eye into the picture more. Tristan

thanks for the help Mike and Tristan, quite a few more landscapes to come
the composition is a lot more interesting in the repost, looking at yours it seems i did oversturate
thought i'd have another quick go, how's this?

Hi jack
I think the original was a little over "pretty but I wouldnt have lessened it as much as you have. I liked the darker first version too.
Cheers
John
The colours still look over saturated to me. The greens look ok but there is a lot of very bright cyan. My version was very dark and probably under-saturated. Perhaps just opening the raw file at the default and not touching the colour will produce a more natural palette.

The greens look better but the water and sky is too strong. Have you got a calibrated monitor?

Hi Jack,
I really like the composition and the wide angle look to this image! As for the colours well I like the original even if it is slightly over saturated. The other versions appear a touch too dark to me.
