Does anyone have any reports of anything worth checking out? I was thinking of heading up into the WA Cascades this weekend... or even over by Mt Adams.

Jack,

I just called the Jackson visitor center at Mt. Rainier. They said that the colors are starting, but likely not peaking for another couple weeks around Paradise, so I'm skipping my plans for sunrise shot in the area. I also called up the Glacier info center for Baker. For the fall color around Picture Lake, they said to give it 7 to 10 days (so essentially the following weekend).

Since September 28th is the day that recently naturalized US citizens get a free pass into the park (which includes myself), I'll be scouting things out in Rainier that day.

Vine maple starting to turn in the higher elevations of the Oregon Cascades - I was able to get some great images on the Willamette National Forest and also on the higher elevations of the Umpqua National Forest. Some of the Aspens and Oaks also turning, lots of yellow Big-leaf Maple turning around the area between Blue River and Springfield. ( I just uploaded some images to my website that I took last weekend) The leaves in the Columbia River Gorge should be turning around Multnomah Falls but I haven't driven up in that area yet.

Columbia Gorge doesn't usually hit peak until the end of October, so there's time for that area. North Cascades and the Alpine Lakes areas should be coming into prime in the next week. This weekend looks fantastic for shooting, so I expect lots of color reports on monday.

Color is starting up here in Snoqualmie. Depending on the weather, I'd say give it two weeks for full color. We are headed to Leavenworth on Sunday, so we'll let you know what's over that way. NL
